No one’s said that to me—yet haha—but I’d be lying if the thought didn’t pop into my head for a second. Here I was, convinced that Black Plague Precision was going to be the new frontier of long-range shooting resources, only to realize that, hey, someone else had been doing it for years! As they say, there’s nothing new under the sun. Precison Rifle Blog (PRB) already has a rock-solid reputation, has been around for over a decade and brings amazing content to all that are interested in long range.
Now, I’ll admit, I was a little bummed I’d forgotten about them—but only because I would’ve given them a shout-out sooner! The truth is, I still think Black Plague Precision has a fresh angle, and there’s room for both of us in this space. So, to live up to my own mission of bringing you all things long-range precision, I’m taking a moment to spotlight Precision Rifle Blog. Whether you’re new to long-range or a seasoned shooter, this is one resource you can’t afford to overlook.
About Cal Zant and Precision Rifle Blog

Precision Rifle Blog (PRB) was created by Cal Zant, a competitive shooter, lifelong learner, and data-driven engineer. Cal started the blog back in 2009, after realizing how scattered and complex the information about long-range shooting was. Forums were fragmented and jargon-heavy, and reliable, objective data was scarce. So, he decided to fill that gap himself, documenting his learning process and sharing his insights in a way that both beginners and experts could appreciate.
Since then, PRB has grown into a powerhouse of knowledge, receiving over 4 million views annually. It’s one of the most respected sites in long-range shooting, thanks in large part to Cal’s methodical, independent approach.
What I Love About Precision Rifle Blog
There’s a lot to love about Precision Rifle Blog, but a few things truly stand out for me as a fan and gear enthusiast:
The “What The Pros Use” Series: I’ve always been fascinated by the gear that top shooters rely on, and PRB’s “What The Pros Use” series is the ultimate reference. Not only is it a great way to get a feel for what’s working for the pros, but it was also incredibly useful when I was just getting started. It’s a fantastic resource, packed with comprehensive lists and insights. That said, it does have a bit of a PRS and rimfire focus, and I’d love to see more coverage of other disciplines like Benchrest, F-Class, Airgun, and even Olympic rifle shooting. For newcomers, though, I’d say: don’t feel like you need to run out and buy the exact setup the pros use. Use it as a reference, and check how the shooter ranks to get a sense of what works best for top performers.
The “Tips and How-To” Section: Let’s be honest, we all want to improve, and the “Tips and How-To” section is like a treasure chest of practical advice. PRB covers everything from gear maintenance to shooting techniques, and I find myself constantly coming back to it. Every shooter can find something valuable here, whether you’re aiming to up your game or just learn new techniques.
Extreme Long Range (ELR) Shooting Resources: I’ll admit it—ELR has a special place in my heart, and it’s one of
the most exciting, challenging forms of long-range shooting. PRB’s coverage of ELR is some of the best I’ve found, and it’s honestly one of the main reasons I keep going back. While I’m not currently shooting ELR, it’s definitely on my “someday” list, and this site has become a go-to for getting ELR information that just isn’t covered elsewhere.
In short, Precision Rifle Blog is one of those sites that every shooter should bookmark. I also highly recommend following them on social media—especially Instagram, where they’re most active, sharing useful content and updates. While PRB does have a YouTube channel, there isn’t a ton there yet, so for now, Instagram is the place to be.
For anyone serious about precision shooting, PRB is an invaluable resource. I hope you find it as useful as I have! And if you’re as passionate about gear, tips, and ELR as I am, PRB is definitely worth your time. For more on Cal’s background and the journey that led to PRB, check out their About Page.
